City Thai

Restaurant: City Thai
Location: 48 S. Fair Oaks Ave, Pasadena, CA

Another friday night, another new restaurant. Tonight we went to City Thai. It wasn't fabulous, but it was good. I ordered Chicken Massaman but they apparently only had beef on that dish, so I got beef. Steve got Pad Thai. The thing is, when we got there it was a little before 8pm. We didn't get our food until almost 9. The waitress never asked for a drink order. She let us sit there after we got to the table for like 15 minutes before coming over and then took our dinner order without ever asking what we wanted to drink. The massaman was a special, and was posted on a dry-erase board by the front door, but she never said anything about the specials. So, I had to make sure to ask for my drink when I ordered my meal. Then of course the food didn't come for another 45 minutes. When it did come it was rather good. The massaman wasn't too spicy for me; very nearly, but not quite. The beef was slightly overcooked, but there was enough sauce and the meat was kinda falling apart, so it was OK. The pad thai was also good although the noodles were kinda soggy. I'm used to a less sticky noodle. That could be due to overcooking, or just a different chef, but the flavor was very good, as was the massaman. In the end, I wouldn't eat there again, especially not if I was in a hurry, although they have lunch specials that seem like a good deal: rice, salad and you meal for $6.99. I would however probably do take-out. There are other Thai places locally, and this was not the one recommended to me by the girl who cut my hair last week. Next week I think I've convinced Steve to do Indian...
